Director
Dr. Matt Silk is the founding Director of the Ethics of AI Society of Waterloo. Matt completed his PhD in philosophy at the University of Waterloo and is the co-author of An Inquirer's Guide to Ethics in AI from Broadview Press. His work focuses on the philosophical, ethical, and political implications of artificial intelligence, with particular emphasis on responsibility and inductive risk in emerging technologies.
Matt established EAISW to foster interdisciplinary dialogue between philosophy, computer science, public policy, and civil society.
He is also the host of the Reconstructing Philosophy Podcast and has written over one hundred ethical analyses for the Prindle Post . He also works more broadly in the philosophy of technology, including the ethics of outer space exploration.

Role within EAISW
As Director, Matt oversees the society’s programming, partnerships, and long-term intellectual vision. This includes organizing symposiums, coordinating and organizing meetings, and developing public-facing resources on AI literacy and ethical governance.
The Director also works to connect academic research with policy discussions and public education initiatives.
